Tin Can Customs records N29.146b worth of  Exported Products

…Seized 11 Containers for Trade Infractions

The Tin Can Island Customs Command has recorded a total Exports proceeds of   45,462 metric tons of agricultural products with Free On Board (FOB) value of N29.146b in the first three months of 2018.

The Command also seized 11 Containers which contravenes trade guidelines. It also collects a total of N104.5b between January to April this year.

Briefing Newsmen, Comptroller Musa  B.A said though  the Command has a shortfall of N12b from the projected revenue of N116b within the period, but it surpassed the 2017 revenue  within the same period with a surplus of N22.68b representing 90.09%.

Musa said the agricultural products exported  includes, cashew nut, rubber, hibiscus flower, cocoa butter, sesame seed, processed wood, frozen shrimps and processed leather with Fee On Board, (FOB) value of over N22.435 billion were exported through the Command during the period.

He also said that 6,945 metric tons of processed and manufactured goods including empty bottles, biscuit, cigarette, polyethylene, billets soap, hair cream and issue paper with FOB value of N6,711 billion were exported .

He further noted that the  figures when compared to 8,140.6 metric tons of exports with a FOB value of N7.246 billion for the same period in 2017, showed an appreciation of 558.46% in terms of volume and 402.24 % of FOB value.

Musa also explained that a comprehensive analysis  of revenue collected    in 2017 within the same period showed that the sum of N82.154 billion which is equivalent to an improvement of about 27.61 percent. He pointed out that the improved collection was driven by the establishment of Standard Operating Procedure, SOP and a strong revenue drive achieved through blocking of areas of leakages.

He further explained that efforts are on to create a one -stop-shop where officers in the valuation unit, Customs Intelligence Unit, (CIU) and others stay in one office to enable them quickly resolve  all issues concerning declarations with Valuations, Classifications and other related clearance procedures as well as quires at the same office.

He said  efforts  are on to automate cargo examination and assignment process where examination officers are assigned examination automatically to enable transparency in the inspection process.

According to him the vehicle valuation system is being further improved with the attachment of the valuation note issued to the Single Goods Declaration, SGD form in the system which will enable a quick verification of assessment and duty payment.

A  total of 11 Containers comprising of 5x40ft containing  second hand Clothing with 1,239 bales of clothing, 3x40ft containers of e- waste, 1x40ft of used tyres and another 1x40ft and 1x20ft containers of Tramadol  Hydrochloride was  seized within the period.
