Stakeholders  to Brainstorm  on Maritime  Industry  Challenges at AMJON Retreat

Maritime  stakeholders and oil and gas industry  experts are set to discuss  the various  challenges facing the sector  and to proffer  solutions in the second  All Nigerian Maritime  Journalists retreat  holding  in the Administrative Staff College  of Nigeria (ASCON), Topo,  Badagry,  Lagos.

The three days event which  is organized  by the Association  of Maritime  Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON)  will begin on Friday 14th and end on Sunday 16th December  2018.

The Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA),MS Hadiza Bala Usman ,  the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) Barrister  Hassan  Bello and the Managing  Director,  Department  of Petroleum  Resources (DPR) among others   are to present  papers at the event.

 

The theme of the retreat is “Promoting a Synergy between the Maritime, Oil & Gas industries for National Development and is aimed at identifying strategic importance of the inland waterways,fishing, oil and gas and port operations.

According to a statement signed by the association’s Secretary General, Roland Ekama, the event will focus on four paper presentations by the Chief Executive Officers of some maritime and Oil and Gas agencies in the country.

The retreat is  expected to house stakeholders from both Maritime, oil & gas  and allied industiri to find a way out of the quagmire the sectors were plunged. It  is expected to unravel some of the salient bottlenecks militating against the ease of doing business as championed by the federal government.

The statement added that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council will treat the topic: “Creating a Workable Tariff Template To Boost Economic Relationship Between Shippers and Terminal Operators,while the MD ,NPA will speak on the topic, “The Task of Rehabilitating Critical Port Infrastructures for National Economic Development.

Other key paper presentations includes, ,the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) with the topic: ” Tank Farm At Port Access Area: How DPR Can Ensure and Sustain Hazard Free Operations.

 

According to the statement, the event will be rounded up with  honours to deserving  Chief Executives with the AMJON  Excellence Leadership  Award.

It could be recalled  that  AMJON  instituted the All Nigerian Maritime  Journalists retreat in 2016 as a yearly program  to gather  industry stakeholders to discus  and proffer  solutions  to the problems  facing  the Maritime,  oil and gas  and allied  industries  in Nigeria.
