Breaking: President Buhari Signs Anti-piracy, CLoTA Bills into Law–To Sign AfCFTA Agreement

The president, Mohammadu Buhari has so far signed the Anti-piracy and the Chartered Institute of Transports Administration of Nigeria (CLoTA) bills into law.
In a short statement by Nnamdi Eronini, National Secretary of CLoTA, he said both bills which were passed by both chambers of the National Assembly were assented to by President Mohammedu Buhari since June 24th 2019.

He also said both bills which are now laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria were championed by Dr Bashir Jamoh, Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA),who also doubles as the National President of CLoTA.

His statement reads “Great Professionals, it is worth announcing here that the Piracy Bill & the Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) Bill earlier passed by the National Assembly have been assented to by the President & C-in-C, Muhammadu Buhari since 24th June, 2019. Both bills were championed by the ED F&A, Nimasa, Dr Bashir Jamoh, who is also the National President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, CIoTA.

“The CIoTA Act confers responsibility for advancing the study, training and practice of Transport management and administration, and for related matters on the institute. Thus CIoTA becomes the prime & pioneer Chartered body to regulate all aspects of Transport, all ancillary (related) areas of Transport. It is historical, monumental & a winner for the transport industry in Nigeria. We will keep you posted on further developments. Thank you great people.” Eronini said.

Meanwhile,the Nigerian Presidency on Tuesday said the country would sign the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement at the upcoming Extraordinary Summit of the African Union in Niamey, the Nigerien capital.
The 12th Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union on African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is billed for July 7, 2019.

President Buhari had refused signing the AfCFTA agreement, but rather set up a committee to look into how the agreement will benefit Nigeria.
The committee, which summited it’s reports to the president few weeks ago advise him to sign the agreement as it will have enormous impacts on the Nigerian economy.
Nigeria is the only African Country that has not sign the AfCFTA agreement yet.
