Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has blown hot saying he is contemplating sacking all Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) staff, including the Registrar Barr. Samuel Nwakohu as according to the Minister, the Council has been his headache writing petitions always.

Amaechi said this while reviewing activities of the agencies under his Ministry at the world maritime day celebrations held on Thursday in Lagos.
Amaechi who commended the performance of the DG of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh, Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Comdr. EMMANUEL Effedua, and that of National Institute of Transport Technology ( NITT), however declined to comment on Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA).

A top source from the Council has hinted our Correspondent that the trouble and petition writers who have been giving the council bad name and problems are some staff who were employed and promoted to the rank of Assistant Directors, when they never merit such positions and have no working experience of the Civil Service. ” Today those staff are fighting, writing petitions to become Registrar above their seniors. These people are the problems of the council”, the source said.

Meanwhile, the Registrar of CRFFN , Barr. Samuel Nwakohu said the Council as a regulatory agency superintending freight Forwarding and it’s practitioners in Nigeria appreciates Nigerian Seafarers.
He said there is a nexus between Seafarers and freight Forwarders.

” As Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, and as active players in the logistics and supply chain, we know that Nigerian Seafarers and freight forwarders have a nexus. Perhaps , the opportunity of today makes it apt to stress the already known fact that , for seafarers to be engaged , there must be vessels. Both of them are inseparable from the seas.

” In the same vain, for a vessel to be useful and be a worthwhile investment to her owners, there must be a cargo to lift.

” I am happy to also stress here that, for cargo to serve it’s diverse purposes and meet needs around the globe, it must be delivered to the warehouse or final destination as pre- determined by its owners in a safe condition.

“May, I with all humility and noble intent say therefore, that this is why the world’s freight forwarders are also of great essence . Have we ever thought about it that , yes , the cargo will get to the ports, but, without a freight forwarder, the cargo may never get to it’s final destination.

“Freight forwarders, including , but not limited to those whom we refer to in Nigeria as Clearing Agents, Insurance Underwriters, the haulage service providers , among others , perform freight forwarding jobs , albeit in diverse ways”, he said.
